VSS9 - How To Recover from a Breach
Limited Capacity seats available

In this session, we’ll discuss disaster recovery, the speed of recovery, and highlight recent ransomware breaches, customer impacts, and service restoration. You’ll learn how reducing Mean Time to Recovery (MTR) can keep your school system operating seamlessly and minimize disruption.
There have been various big breaches and cyber concerns that have made the news lately. Like the Clark Co NV School District attack in September, the Detroit MI area school cyber-attack on K-12 in October, and the very recent SolarWinds breach that’s still fresh on the minds of government agencies and school systems everywhere._x000D_
Cyber Threats and Trends_x000D_
In this session, we’ll be taking a deep dive into the cyber threats and trends we’ve seen in these recent attacks, along with other prominent (and unfortunately successful) methods. I’ll cover:_x000D_
Ransomware and Malware and how new metamorphic code has been a game changer for all organizations as none of the legacy security controls (AV, firewalls, minimal EDRs) seem to have any effect on the malware._x000D_
Phishing and how this ‘ol’ reliable’ method has been increasingly impactful because the attack surface has changed significantly, as students and teachers are taking the technology home to work from home._x000D_
BEC Attacks (business email compromise) and how this type of attack has been and may continue to be devasting to school districts, as it targets funding that is not FDIC insured (the same way or amount) because it is a wire transfer._x000D_
Supply Chain Attacks and how threat actors successfully deployed this method against Solarwinds._x000D_
OT / IOT Attacks and how this affects school systems using security cameras, POS machines, smart vending, and HVAC systems_x000D_
